TP-Link Deco XE75
5.4out of 10verdict: good, not the best

The Deco XE75 is for households that want a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E mesh covering several floors with little tuning. It suits people who value coverage and fast wireless speeds over wired performance and fine control.

New to Wi-Fi routers and mesh systems? What they are and what to look for

A router connects your home to the internet and creates your Wi-Fi network. Mesh systems use several units around the house for stronger signal everywhere.

Do you need a Wi-Fi router? Your broadband provider gives you one, but a better router can fix weak Wi-Fi, slow speeds in far rooms and frequent drop-outs.

The full review

Where it fits

The Deco XE75 is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E mesh system from TP-Link. It uses the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands, with up to 5,400 Mbps combined. You can buy it as a 1, 2 or 3 unit pack. TP-Link rates the coverage at up to 7,200 ft². That is a manufacturer rating, so treat it as an upper limit.

It is aimed at homes where one router cannot reach every room. It is not aimed at people who want to manage the network in detail.

Wi-Fi 6E and coverage7/10

The 6 GHz band is the main hardware draw. It gives the system a third band alongside 2.4 and 5 GHz, which is what the tri-band label means here. The 5,400 Mbps figure is a combined total across the bands, not a speed for a single device.

Owner feedback on the wireless side is positive. People praise fast, near-line-rate speeds and strong coverage across multiple storeys. With a rated 7,200 ft² and packs of up to three units, the system is built for larger or multi-floor homes more than for a small flat, where a single unit would cover most needs.

Wired ports4/10

Each unit has three gigabit ports. That sets the ceiling for any wired device at gigabit speed, so the faster wireless bands are the main route to higher throughput. For a wired-heavy setup with a NAS or several desktops, that ceiling matters.

Wired backhaul needs care. Some owners report that satellites fail to link over wired backhaul with certain switches and cabling. If you plan to run Ethernet between units, expect some trial and error with your own kit.

Software and security4/10

The XE75 supports WPA, WPA2-PSK and WPA3 encryption. It also includes HomeShield, parental controls and QoS. For a family network, that covers the basics of filtering and device control.

Owners are less happy with the depth of control. Reports mention no real bandwidth limiter, weak QoS, a view-only web portal and no manual channel choice. Given those gaps, it suits people who want the system to manage itself more than people who like to tune channels and traffic rules.

Firmware is a recurring worry. Some owners say certain updates made things worse, including one that cut the internet after a reboot. If you manage a network for others, that history is worth weighing before you turn on automatic updates.

Reliability

The most common complaint from owners is drops and reboots that need a power cycle. Because it is the most frequent theme, it matters more than any single spec. A mesh system is meant to be left alone, and needing to reset it by hand works against that.

Power use

Regulatory idle power is listed as 8.17 W for the 1-, 2- and 3-pack. Rated maximum draw is 25.96 W with the US adapter and 20.85 W with the EU adapter. These are listed figures, so they show the range you can expect rather than a running cost in your home.

Who it suits

The XE75 suits a household that wants 6E and wide coverage across several floors. Its strengths are the tri-band hardware, the rated coverage and the speeds owners report.

It is a poorer match for homelabbers and sysadmins. The gigabit-only ports, the view-only web portal, the lack of manual channel choice and the reports of unstable firmware all point away from a setup that needs precise control or dependable uptime without intervention.

What owners report

Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.

  • Drops and reboots that need a power cycle are the most common complaint.
  • Advanced controls are limited, with no real bandwidth limiter, weak QoS, a view-only web portal and no manual channel choice.
  • Satellites sometimes fail to link over wired backhaul with certain switches and cabling.
  • Some firmware updates made things worse, and owners praise the fast speeds and multi-storey coverage.
Who should skip it
  • Buyers who want 2.5GbE or faster wired ports
  • Homelabbers who need detailed traffic control and manual channel selection
  • Anyone who needs a hands-off network with no resets or firmware risk
