New to mini PCs? What they are and what to look for
A mini PC is a full desktop computer about the size of a sandwich. It plugs into any monitor and uses far less electricity than a tower PC.
Do you need a mini PC? A good fit for everyday office work, a second computer, a living-room media PC, or a quiet home server. It isn't the right choice for serious gaming.
What to look for
- 16GB of memory and a 500GB or larger SSD
- Enough USB and display ports for your setup
- Quiet cooling, and whether you can upgrade memory and storage later

The full review
Where it fits
The P4 Plus is built around the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U, an 8-core, 16-thread chip that boosts up to 4.5GHz and uses integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics. It comes with 16GB of DDR4 and a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD. The rest of the specification points at small server and homelab use: two 2.5GbE ports, two SO-DIMM slots and two M.2 slots.
CPU and memory
Eight cores and 16 threads give it room for containers, a few light VMs or a set of always-on services. The Vega 8 graphics are a different matter. Owners say they limit gaming and GPU compute, so this is not a machine to pick for either.
The memory setup deserves attention. The P4 Plus ships with a single 16GB stick running in single channel, and owners report that this limits performance. Owners also say boost clocks may not hold under sustained load. If you plan long compile jobs or heavy multi-threaded work, expect the 4.5GHz figure to be a peak rather than a constant.
Upgrade path
This is the strongest part of the spec sheet. Two SO-DIMM slots accept up to 64GB, which is four times the installed 16GB. With that ceiling and two slots, it can grow from a small container host into something that runs several VMs.
Storage is just as flexible. There are two M.2 2280 slots and the second is free, so you can add a drive without removing the 1TB SSD. One point to check before buying: the SSD interface is described as PCIe 4.0 in one place and PCIe 3.0 in another. If drive speed matters to you, confirm which applies.
Networking8/10
The P4 Plus has dual 2.5GbE RJ45 ports using Realtek RTL8125 controllers. Owners praise the dual 2.5G LAN for the price. Two wired ports leave room to separate management traffic from data traffic, or to try the machine as a small router or firewall box. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 are built in for wireless use.
There is no 10GbE or SFP+ here. Two 2.5GbE ports are the ceiling for wired networking.
Noise and cooling6/10
Owners praise the quiet operation. They also report that fan noise rises under sustained load. That fits the boost-clock reports: when the chip works hard for long periods, cooling becomes more audible. No idle power figure is listed for this model, so check it against your own running-cost expectations if the box will run around the clock.
Ports and display5/10
Video outputs are HDMI, DisplayPort 1.4 and a full-function USB-C port. Owners praise the triple 4K output. The front has USB 10Gbps ports, while the two rear Type-A ports are only USB 2.0. Those rear ports are slow for external drives, so use the front ports for storage.
There is no USB4 or Thunderbolt. That rules out Thunderbolt docks and high-speed external enclosures that depend on those ports.
Warranty
Warranty length is unclear. One year is stated for the P4 Ultra, and three years for the P4 Plus 5825U. Confirm the term for this exact model with the seller before you order.
Who it suits
It suits buyers who want an eight-core machine with two 2.5GbE ports and a clear route to 64GB of RAM and a second SSD. Fit a second memory stick early, since owners link the single stick to lower performance. Anyone who needs fast external connectivity, strong graphics or firm warranty terms should look elsewhere.
What owners report
Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.
- Owners praise the quiet operation.
- Owners like the dual 2.5G LAN and triple 4K output for the price.
- The single RAM stick is reported to limit performance.
- Boost clocks may not hold, and fan noise rises under sustained load.
- Vega 8 graphics limit gaming and GPU compute.
Who should skip it
- Buyers who need USB4 or Thunderbolt for docks or fast external storage
- Gamers or anyone needing strong integrated graphics or GPU compute
- Users who need 10GbE or SFP+ networking
