The full review
Where it fits
The Philips 24E1N1100A/00 is a 23.8 inch monitor with a 1920 x 1080 IPS panel. It is built for plain desk work: documents, browsing, video calls and a second screen next to a laptop. It has no USB hub, no USB-C and no built-in extras beyond two 2 W speakers. That keeps the spec simple and points it at buyers who want a screen and nothing else.
Panel and picture8/10
The IPS panel is the main strength. Philips lists 178° viewing angles both horizontally and vertically, so colour should hold up when you sit off-centre or share the screen. Colour coverage is 102% sRGB, with 89.36% NTSC, 87.82% Adobe RGB and 81.39% DCI-P3 also listed. For general office and web work, the sRGB figure is the one that matters most.
Contrast is quoted at 1300:1 in some places and 1500:1 typical in others. Brightness is given as 250 cd/m² and as 300 cd/m² typical. Either way, the figures describe a screen aimed at normal indoor lighting rather than a bright room. The anti-glare coating and 3H surface hardness help with reflections and everyday handling. Philips also lists a 25% haze rate.
Owner reviews back this up. Reviewers describe the image as calm, pleasant and sharp.
Sharpness6/10
At 23.8 inches and 1080p, pixel density is 92.56 ppi, with a pixel pitch of 0.2745 mm. That suits office software and web pages at default scaling. Anyone who reads or codes for long stretches should weigh that 92.56 ppi figure before buying. For a second screen or light use, the density is a reasonable match for the size.
Refresh rate and motion8/10
Philips quotes a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, though some retailers list 100Hz, so check the listing you buy from. Response time is 4 ms grey-to-grey and 1 ms MPRT. VESA Adaptive Sync is supported, which gives a variable refresh option for games and general use. This is a useful extra on a monitor with this spec, and it suits casual gaming more than competitive play.
Connections and stand
The inputs are HDMI 1.4 and VGA, plus a 3.5 mm audio in and out. There is no DisplayPort and no USB-C. A laptop without HDMI will need an adapter, and a single-cable docking setup is not possible. DDC/CI is supported for software control of monitor settings.
The stand tilts and does nothing else. There is no height adjustment, swivel or pivot. The monitor weighs 2.90 kg with the stand and 2.50 kg without it, and it takes VESA 100x100 mounts. Because the stand is so limited, a VESA arm is the obvious route if you want a better viewing position.
What owners say
Feedback centres on two points: the picture quality and the value. Reviewers describe it as good for the price and not expensive. The spec sheet shows the trade-offs: tilt-only stand, limited inputs and ordinary 1080p sharpness.
Verdict
This monitor makes sense where the panel matters more than the extras. The IPS screen, sRGB coverage, wide viewing angles and 100 to 120Hz refresh rate are the reasons to consider it. The HDMI and VGA inputs, tilt-only stand and 92.56 ppi density limit it to simple setups. If your laptop or PC has HDMI and you want a no-fuss second screen, it fits. If you need USB-C, DisplayPort or a height-adjustable stand, look at other models.
