New to PC cases? What they are and what to look for

The case is the box that holds a desktop PC's parts, keeps them cool with fans and airflow, and sets how big and loud the finished PC is.

Do you need a PC case? Every desktop build needs one. It's also the part people see, so looks matter more here than anywhere else.

What to look for

  • Room for your graphics card's length and your CPU cooler's height
  • A mesh front panel and included fans for cooler, quieter running
  • The motherboard size it takes, and whether it fits on or under your desk

The full review

Where it fits

The MAG PANO 100L PZ WHITE is a mid tower from MSI, released in May 2024. It takes ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX boards in the regular layout. It also takes ATX and Micro-ATX boards in the back-connect layout. The panels are 4 mm tempered glass on three sides, and owners often mention the 270-degree glass look.

It suits someone who wants to show off a build and is happy to choose their own fans. No PSU is included either, so this is a shell to fill.

Airflow and cooling3/10

MSI fits no fans at the factory, and owners raise that as a complaint. The front is listed as NA for both radiators and fans. Cooling depends on what you add elsewhere in the case.

The mounting options are wide. The top, side and bottom each take 120, 240 or 360 mm radiators, so three 360 mm radiators are supported in total. The rear takes a 120 mm radiator or one 120 mm fan. The top takes three 120 mm or three 140 mm fans. The side takes three 120 mm or two 140 mm fans. The bottom takes three 120 mm, two 140 mm or two 160 mm fans. MSI lists support for up to ten 120 mm system fans, plus two 6015 fans for the GPU.

The spec sheet gives no measured temperatures. With no fans supplied and no front mounting, the airflow you get comes entirely from how you fill the top, side, bottom and rear positions. That makes the case better suited to a planned cooling layout than to a quick build.

Space and compatibility8/10

GPU clearance is 380 mm according to the US datasheet, Pangoly and reviewers. MSI's global datasheet gives 400 mm. If your card is near that length, check it against the lower figure. CPU cooler height is 166 mm. The case takes an ATX PSU up to 200 mm long, and it has eight expansion slots.

Storage is modest. MSI lists three 2.5-inch mounts and two combo 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch mounts. With only two positions that take a 3.5-inch drive, it suits SSD-led builds more than large spinning-disk setups.

The radiator support is the standout. Three 360 mm positions give room for a large liquid-cooling loop.

Building in it7/10

Cable routing space is 90 mm. The front and side panels are removable, and the side panel uses a push-latch. Owners describe an easy build, especially with back-connect motherboards, where the case's back-connect support for ATX and Micro-ATX boards comes into play.

Top I/O is one USB 20Gbps Type-C, two USB 5Gbps Type-A, audio, and reset and power buttons.

MSI's datasheet gives the dimensions as 518.7 x 290 x 482 mm and the weight as 11.30 kg. One reviewer gives much smaller figures, so check the dimensions against your desk space before buying.

Noise5/10

Because the case ships without fans, noise will depend on the fans and pumps you choose. The case lists 140 mm and 160 mm fan positions at the bottom, and 140 mm positions at the top and side, so you have a range of sizes to choose from.

Value6/10

Owners say it is good value for the price, and they like the glass look. The missing fans pull the other way. You will need to budget for them, and the more of the fan and radiator positions you fill, the more that cost grows.

Verdict

This is a good match for a builder who wants a glass-sided case, plans to use a back-connect board or a big radiator setup, and has fans in mind already. It is a weaker match for anyone who needs a front intake, wants several 3.5-inch drives, or wants a case that arrives with working airflow.

Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.

  • Owners find building easy, particularly with back-connect motherboards.
  • Owners like the 270-degree glass look.

  • Buyers who want fans included from the start
  • Anyone needing several 3.5-inch drive bays for bulk storage
  • Builders who want a front fan or radiator mount
