New to PC cases? What they are and what to look for
The case is the box that holds a desktop PC's parts, keeps them cool with fans and airflow, and sets how big and loud the finished PC is.
Do you need a PC case? Every desktop build needs one. It's also the part people see, so looks matter more here than anywhere else.
What to look for
- Room for your graphics card's length and your CPU cooler's height
- A mesh front panel and included fans for cooler, quieter running
- The motherboard size it takes, and whether it fits on or under your desk

The full review
Where it fits
The LANCOOL 217 is a mid-tower case from Lian Li, released on 28 April 2025. It takes E-ATX and EEB motherboards, and Lian Li lists it as back-connect compatible. With 380 mm of graphics card clearance as well, it suits builders who want a large board or a long graphics card.
Airflow and cooling8/10
Five fans come pre-installed, and two of them are 170 mm units at the front. Owners consistently describe strong airflow from the mesh front panel and the fan layout. The top of the case takes radiators of 360, 280 or 240 mm, so a large liquid cooler radiator can go up there.
GamersNexus measured VR VCC sensor results in three setups. The CPU mode came out 20 C above ambient, the GPU modes 19 C, and the vertical GPU setup 17 C. The vertical GPU result was the lowest of the three. The front fans are tool-less to mount, which helps if you want to swap or move them.
Space and compatibility8/10
Graphics card clearance is 380 mm at most. Lian Li includes an adjustable anti-sag bracket, and owners mention both the clearance and the bracket as positives. With that much length and a bracket in the box, a long, heavy card is a reasonable fit here.
CPU cooler height tops out at 180 mm. Owners describe good CPU clearance, so most tower coolers within that limit should have room. Check your cooler's listed height against the 180 mm figure before buying.
The case takes ATX power supplies. Maximum PSU length is 220 mm in the standard position and 180 mm when the PSU is rotated. If you own a long modular unit, measure it first, because the rotated position cuts the allowance by 40 mm.
Lian Li's Vertical GPU Bracket Kit page lists the LANCOOL 217 as supported, specifically the VG4 kit. That gives you a mounting route if you want the card displayed upright. The 17 C figure above comes from the vertical GPU configuration.
Materials and building7/10
The side panel is 4 mm tempered glass. The top, front frame and rear are steel. The front fans mount without tools, and the GPU support bracket is part of the package. Those two details point to a case designed to be set up with little fuss.
Owner feedback focuses on airflow, clearance and the bracket. It says little about cable routing space, so this review does not rank the case on that point. The spec sheet shows room for large components, which is the main thing a builder will check before starting.
Noise5/10
The case relies on a mesh front and five fans for its cooling. The spec sheet does not give noise figures, and owners do not report on sound in the feedback summarised here. Your result will depend on the fan speeds you set and the components you fit.
Value8/10
Five fans are already installed, and an anti-sag bracket comes with the case. That cuts down on the extras you need to buy for a first build. The case also lists support for E-ATX boards, 380 mm graphics cards and a 360 mm top radiator.
Verdict
The LANCOOL 217 suits builders who prioritise airflow and component room. Its strengths follow directly from its specs: a mesh front, five fans, 380 mm of GPU space and a 360 mm top radiator option. Its limits are just as clear. Cooler height stops at 180 mm, and PSU length falls to 180 mm when the unit is rotated. Check your parts against those numbers before buying.
What owners report

- Owners praise the clearance for graphics cards and CPU coolers.
- Owners like that a GPU support bracket comes included.
Who should skip it
- Buyers with a CPU cooler taller than 180 mm
- Buyers with a power supply longer than 220 mm
- Anyone who wants a solid-panel case chosen for quiet running
