New to graphics cards? What they are and what to look for

A graphics card (GPU) draws the picture for games and speeds up video editing and AI tools. It fits inside a desktop PC.

Do you need a graphics card? Needed for modern PC gaming and running AI models at home. Not needed for office work, browsing or video streaming.

What to look for

  • Enough video memory: 12GB or more for new games and AI
  • That it physically fits your case and power supply
  • Noise and power use

The full review

Where it fits

The MSI GT 710 2GD3H LP is a basic display card built on the NVIDIA GeForce GT 710. It carries 2048 MB of DDR3 on a 64-bit bus, with a 1600 MHz memory clock and a 954 MHz core clock. The Polish MSI store lists 192 CUDA cores. Board power is 19 W, and the recommended PSU is 300 W.

Owners describe it as suited to light office and streaming use, not demanding games. That matches the specification. A 64-bit bus and DDR3 memory point to a card that puts a desktop on a screen rather than one that renders heavy 3D scenes.

Performance and memoryPerformance 2/10Video memory 1/10

The GPU supports DirectX 12 at feature level 11_0 and OpenGL 4.5. That support does not change the fact that this is a GT 710 with 192 CUDA cores and a 954 MHz core clock.

Memory is the clearest limit. The card has 2GB of DDR3 on a 64-bit bus, and owners say it suits light use rather than demanding games. If you want a card to run a monitor or two and nothing more, the capacity is less of an issue.

CUDA cores are listed, so NVIDIA's compute platform is at least named for this GPU.

Cooling and noise8/10

This is a fanless card, and several owners praise its quiet operation. At 19 W board power there is not much heat to move, which fits a passive design. That makes it a reasonable choice for a PC you want to be silent.

There is a catch. Owners report overheating when the card gets no airflow, and some suggested adding a fan. If the card goes into a tight case with no moving air, plan for a case fan or a chassis with a clear airflow path. A silent card in a sealed box is not a silent setup if it runs hot.

Size and connectors9/10

The card measures 146 x 69 x 19 mm, length by width by thickness. LDLC lists it as single slot. Check your case clearances against the 146 mm length and 69 mm width before ordering.

There is no power connector. The card draws from the slot alone, so it needs no spare cable from the PSU. That helps in office PCs and small servers with limited power leads.

Outputs are one dual-link DVI-D, one HDMI 1.4a and one D-Sub. The D-Sub and DVI-D ports cover displays with those inputs, and the HDMI 1.4a port covers displays that take HDMI. The spec sheet lists one of each, so count your monitors against that.

Build and warranty6/10

MSI says the card uses solid capacitors rated for 10 years of ultra-long lifetime under full load. That is a manufacturer claim, not an owner report. Ask the seller what cover applies before you buy. The part number is 912-V809-3814, which helps you match the exact model across listings.

Verdict

This card does a small job. It gives you display outputs, low power draw, slot power only and a compact single-slot body. Owners like the silence. The 2GB of DDR3 and the GT 710 GPU keep it away from demanding games, and the overheating reports mean airflow matters. Buy it for a quiet office or streaming machine with some air moving through the case.

What owners report

Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.

  • Several owners praise the quiet, fanless operation.
  • Some owners report overheating without airflow and suggest adding a fan.
  • Owners see it as suited to light office and streaming use, not demanding games.
Who should skip it
  • Gamers wanting to play demanding modern titles
  • Builders putting it in a sealed case with no airflow
