New to headsets? What they are and what to look for
A headset is headphones with a microphone, for calls, gaming and shutting out noise.
Do you need a headset? Worth it if you're on calls a lot, game online, or work somewhere noisy.
What to look for
- A clear microphone (a boom mic is clearest)
- Comfort for hours of wear
- Noise cancelling if you work somewhere noisy, and long battery life if wireless

| Linux | Partly works on Linux. The kernel's HID-SteelSeries driver handles wireless status and battery reporting, and a Linux 7.3 patch adds the Arctis Nova 7 (0x2202), but SteelSeries makes no Linux software and the notes found no owner reports for this model. source |

The full review
Where it fits
The Arctis Nova 7 Wireless is a gaming headset with two wireless options: a 2.4GHz USB-C dongle and Bluetooth 5.0. A wired 3.5mm connection is also available. Platform support is broad: PC, Mac, PS4 and PS5, Switch, handhelds, mobile and Oculus Quest 2. ChatMix is listed for Windows 10 and above.
It does not work with Xbox. SteelSeries support says the Xbox version is the Nova 7X, so Xbox players need that model instead.
Connectivity and battery9/10
This is where the headset is strongest. The dongle and Bluetooth can carry audio at the same time, so game sound from a PC and audio from a Bluetooth source can share one headset. The wired option adds a fallback if you would rather plug in.
Battery figures are consistent across sources. SteelSeries claims 38 hours, and PC Gamer measured 38 hours 20 minutes. RTINGS reports over 33 hours of continuous playback. USB-C fast charging gives 6 hours after 15 minutes on charge. Owners praise the battery, and the measured figures back that up: a full charge should cover many sessions between top-ups.
Comfort7/10
The headset weighs 325 g. Owners praise its comfort for long sessions, which is the main reason to consider it for all-day gaming or work.
Microphone6/10
The microphone is a fully retractable ClearCast Gen 2 boom with bidirectional noise cancelling pickup. Because it retracts fully, it can be tucked away when you are only listening. The noise cancelling pickup is aimed at keeping background noise out of your voice. Owner themes do not single the microphone out for praise or complaint, so the spec is the guide.
Sound5/10
Sound is the least settled part of the picture. Some reviews describe the tuning as neutral. Others call it disappointing. With reports split like that, it is a headset to pick for its features and comfort rather than for audio quality alone. Buyers who put sound first should read several reviews before committing.
Noise isolation and price3/10
There is no active noise cancelling. The headset relies on passive isolation only, and owners complain about the lack of isolation. That matters most in noisy rooms, on commutes or in shared spaces, where Bluetooth and mobile support might otherwise make the headset appealing for travel.
Owners also consider the price too high. That complaint sits alongside the criticism of isolation and the mixed sound reports.
Where it lands
The Nova 7 Wireless suits someone who games on PC, PlayStation or Switch and wants long battery life, a dongle and Bluetooth together, and a headset owners find comfortable for hours. It is a weaker fit for Xbox players, for people who want noise cancelling, and for buyers who put price or sound quality first.
