New to headsets? What they are and what to look for

A headset is headphones with a microphone, for calls, gaming and shutting out noise.

Do you need a headset? Worth it if you're on calls a lot, game online, or work somewhere noisy.

What to look for

  • A clear microphone (a boom mic is clearest)
  • Comfort for hours of wear
  • Noise cancelling if you work somewhere noisy, and long battery life if wireless

Compatibility

LinuxPartly works on Linux. No official Linux support; basic audio works through generic drivers, and extra features need the third-party HeadsetControl tool, per a guide that covers the G PRO X2 rather than this exact model. source

The full review

Where it fits

The G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED is a wireless gaming headset from Logitech G, released in May 2023. It connects over LIGHTSPEED 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth or a 3.5mm wired cable. The listed platforms are PC (Windows 10 or later) and PlayStation 5, with PS4 supported through USB wireless stereo only.

It is built around long gaming sessions at a desk or console. That shapes everything below.

Comfort and build8/10

Owners describe the headset as very comfortable and light. The manufacturer lists 345 g, and reviews report weights between 339 g and 350 g. Owners also praise the sturdy build.

For all-day wear, that combination of reported comfort and a weight in that range is a good sign. Owners raise no comfort complaint.

Sound6/10

Owner views on the sound are mixed, mainly because of the bass-heavy default tuning. Some buyers like it. Others find it too heavy on bass.

The Blue VO!CE software provides EQ options, so the default tuning is not the only one available. A buyer who dislikes heavy bass can adjust it there rather than live with the factory profile. The headset also carries a 7.1 surround designation in its name.

Microphone5/10

The microphone is a detachable cardioid boom. Blue VO!CE software adds EQ and noise-reduction options for it. On paper, that is a sensible setup for voice chat.

Owners are less positive. The recurring complaint is that the mic is weak and feels dated. If you chat in game most evenings, expect to spend time in the software. If you take work calls on the headset, this is the area to weigh most carefully.

Connectivity and battery7/10

Three connection options are listed: LIGHTSPEED 2.4 GHz with up to 30 m of wireless range, Bluetooth, and a 3.5mm wired connection.

There are two limits. Multipoint Bluetooth is not offered, so it will not hold two Bluetooth sources at once. Bluetooth and the 2.4 GHz connection also cannot run at the same time. You cannot keep a phone on Bluetooth while the headset is playing game audio over 2.4 GHz.

Battery life is a strength. The manufacturer quotes up to 50 hours. PC Gamer measured just under 40 hours in 2.4 GHz mode. That gap is worth knowing, but even the lower figure is long. Owners praise the battery life too. Charging uses USB-C, and the manufacturer includes a USB-A to USB-C cable.

No noise cancelling5/10

The headset does not offer active noise cancelling. That counts if you play or work in a noisy room. The only noise handling listed is the mic noise-reduction option in Blue VO!CE.

The lack of ANC, the Bluetooth restrictions and the mic complaints are the main reasons to think twice. Comfort, battery life and build are the main reasons to buy.

Verdict

The G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED is a comfort-first wireless headset for PC and PlayStation 5 players. Owners back up the light, comfortable fit, and the battery figures are strong. The weak mic reports and the absence of ANC and multipoint Bluetooth narrow its appeal. It suits someone who games for hours, mostly over 2.4 GHz, and will either use a separate mic or accept the built-in one.
