New to graphics cards? What they are and what to look for

A graphics card (GPU) draws the picture for games and speeds up video editing and AI tools. It fits inside a desktop PC.

Do you need a graphics card? Needed for modern PC gaming and running AI models at home. Not needed for office work, browsing or video streaming.

What to look for

  • Enough video memory: 12GB or more for new games and AI
  • That it physically fits your case and power supply
  • Noise and power use

The full review

Where it fits

The ASUS Dual Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB White Edition uses AMD's Navi 44 XT GPU on the RDNA 4 architecture, built on 4nm with 2,048 stream processors. The memory is 16GB of GDDR6 on a 128-bit bus at 20 Gbps. The card clocks to 2620 MHz in Gaming mode and 3250 MHz in OC mode.

With a 202mm length, an SFF ready listing, a single 8-pin connector and 16GB of memory, it suits a small desktop where video memory capacity matters. ASUS lists a white finish with no illumination.

Video memory7/10

The 16GB capacity is the main draw. ASUS lists it as discrete graphics memory of the GDDR6 type, with a 20 Gbit/s data transfer rate on a 128-bit bus.

There is a catch for AI users. The card has no CUDA support, so any tool that requires CUDA will not use it. Check that your software supports AMD GPUs before you buy.

Size, power and fit8/10

This is where the card does well. It measures 202 x 120 x 49mm, takes up 2.5 slots and weighs 601g. It is a full-height, half-length card, and it is listed as SFF ready. At 202mm long, it is aimed at small builds, though you should still check your case's clearance.

Power comes through a single 8-pin PCIe connector. The recommended PSU is 550W. Quoted power figures vary: 150W TGP, 160W board power for the reference card, and 182W as a stated requirement. The single connector keeps cabling simple in a small build.

The card uses PCIe 5.0. It has one HDMI 2.1b port and two DisplayPort 2.1a ports, and supports a maximum of three displays. It has no Dual Link DVI output.

Cooling, noise and buildEfficiency and noise 8/10Build and warranty 6/10

Cooling is active, using two fans with ASUS Axial-tech technology and dual-ball bearings. ASUS claims a 0dB stop mode at idle, so the fans can stay off when the card is not under load. Owners report quiet operation under load and in comparison with their previous cards.

The build includes a 304 stainless-steel bracket and a vented backplate. The card has no illumination, and the white finish suits light-coloured builds without RGB lighting.

Software and outputs5/10

The card supports OpenGL 4.6 and runs on PCIe 5.0. There is no CUDA, and the listing for parallel processing technology support reads "Not supported". Anyone planning to use it for AI or compute should confirm that their tools work on AMD hardware first. The card supports a maximum of three displays, so a larger multi-monitor setup would need a different card.

Who it suits

It suits builders who put noise, size and memory capacity first. A small white case, a quiet desktop or a media PC that also games are all matches on paper, because the card is short, needs one 8-pin connector and is reported as quiet. The card weighs 601g, has a full-height bracket and takes 2.5 slots, so check that the slots beside it are free. Its white finish and lack of illumination suit a build without RGB lighting.

It is a weaker choice for anyone who needs more than three displays from one card, or who needs Dual Link DVI, which the card does not have. It is also the wrong card for CUDA-dependent workflows, as the card lists no CUDA support.

What owners report

Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.

  • Owners report quiet operation under load.
  • Owners also describe it as quieter than the cards it replaced.
Who should skip it
  • Anyone running AI or compute tools that require CUDA
  • Users who need more than three displays from one card
