New to mice? What they are and what to look for

A mouse is the pointer you move around your screen. A better one is more comfortable, more precise and can work with several computers.

Do you need a new mouse? Worth upgrading if your hand or wrist aches after long days, or you game and want quicker, lighter control.

What to look for

  • Comfort: ergonomic shapes suit long workdays
  • Both Bluetooth and a USB receiver, and USB-C charging
  • Long battery life, and extra buttons if you'll use them

Compatibility

LinuxPartly works on Linux. Works through community tools like Solaar, LogiOps, and OpenLogi, but Logitech provides no Linux software and the mouse's Bluetooth ID was added to the kernel's HID++ driver. source

The full review

Where it fits

This is a full-size, right-handed mouse built around desk work. It measures 124.9 x 84.3 x 51 mm and weighs 141 g. The weight figure is for the mouse only. The Bluetooth Edition is listed with Bluetooth Low Energy and Easy-Switch across three channels. The spec sheet lists a Logi Bolt USB receiver only for the business variant, so plan on Bluetooth if you buy this edition.

Comfort and shape7/10

Owners and reviewers praise the sculpted shape. Logitech's own survey adds a number: 96% of 55 surveyed MX Master 3 and 3S users rated the 3S more comfortable than their previous mouse. That survey is manufacturer-run and the sample is small, so treat it as a pointer, not proof.

The shape also brings limits. Left-handed use is not supported. Some owners say it is too big and heavy for their hands, and others call it bulky for a laptop bag. With a 141 g body and full-size dimensions, it suits a mouse that lives on a desk more than one that travels daily.

Buttons and scroll wheel9/10

The mouse has seven buttons, plus a thumbwheel and a gesture button. The MagSpeed electromagnetic scroll wheel runs at 1,000 lines per second and uses a machined steel wheel.

Quiet Clicks are a recurring owner and reviewer theme. Logitech claims 90% less click noise than the MX Master 3. For a shared office or a homelab desk in a living space, that claim matters.

Sensor and tracking7/10

The mouse uses a Darkfield optical sensor that tracks on glass. Consumer pages list 8,000 DPI, but the business spec sheet lists 200 to 4,000 DPI. Check which figure applies to the model you are buying.

One reviewer measured polling at 125 Hz, and 90 Hz on macOS over Bluetooth. There's no manufacturer polling figure to set against that, so treat the measurement as one reviewer's result listed.

Battery and connectivity7/10

The 500 mAh Li-Po battery charges over USB-C and lasts about 70 days per full charge. Easy-Switch covers three Bluetooth channels, so one mouse can serve a desktop, a laptop and a third machine. Logitech Flow adds control across devices.

The battery is not user-replaceable. Owners flag this as a longevity concern, and the spec sheet gives no replacement route. If you keep mice for many years, weigh that.

Software7/10

Logi Options+ covers Windows and macOS. There's no Linux software, so Linux users should not assume Options+ is available listed. Whether the mouse works without software depends on the features you want.

Verdict

The MX Master 3S Bluetooth Edition is a comfort-first, button-rich mouse for right-handed desk users. Its quiet clicks, steel scroll wheel and three-device switching are well supported by the specifications and owner reports. Its size, weight, fixed battery and Windows and macOS software are the trade-offs. If those fit your setup, it is a sound pick for long working days.
