New to webcams? What they are and what to look for
A webcam is a small camera that sits on your monitor for video calls and streaming.
Do you need a webcam? Worth it if your laptop's built-in camera looks grainy, or you use a desktop PC without one.
What to look for
- 1080p is enough for calls; good low-light performance matters more than 4K
- Autofocus and a built-in privacy shutter
- Works without extra software on your computer

The full review
Where it fits
The Anker PowerConf C200 is a 2K USB webcam aimed at one person at a desk. It records 2560 x 1440 at 30fps, and offers 1080p and 720p, also at 30fps. Owner feedback describes it as a personal desk webcam rather than a wide room camera. That framing matches its three fields of view, which top out at 95° diagonal.
Picture quality7/10
Reviewers describe the image as sharp and detailed, with crisp details and accurate colours. Those comments are the main case for it. The sensor output goes up to 2K, so there is more resolution to work with than on a plain 1080p camera.
There are limits. Every listed mode runs at 30fps, and there is no 4K. One review lists an aperture of f/2.0, but the other sources in the spec sheet gives no sensor size, so there is little else to say about the optics.
The field of view can be set to 65°, 78° or 95° diagonal. The setting is made in software.
Low light5/10
This is where reviewers disagree. Tom's Guide rates low-light performance as excellent. Home Office Research calls it adequate and reports visible digital noise in poor light. With two reviewers that far apart, a dim room is not a safe assumption. A buyer who often calls in poor light should treat the result as uncertain.
Microphone6/10
The camera has dual stereo microphones with AI noise cancellation. Owners report that they reduce fan hum and keyboard noise well. They also say the microphones do not replace a dedicated microphone. For routine calls, the built-in pair may be enough. For recording or anything where voice quality matters, owner feedback points to a separate microphone.
Privacy and focus7/10
The C200 has an integrated sliding privacy cover. Owners describe it as genuinely useful rather than decorative. One detail matters: the cover does not mute the microphones. Closing it blocks the picture only, so audio still needs handling separately.
Autofocus takes under 0.5 seconds to lock, according to the manufacturer. There is no auto-framing. The camera does not reframe around you, so you set the field of view and position yourself within it.
Compatibility7/10
The webcam works over USB without drivers on Windows 7 and later and on macOS 10.11 and later. That covers plug-and-play use on both.
Who it suits
With 2K output, reviewer praise for sharpness and colour, and a physical cover, the C200 suits a home-office desk with steady lighting. The disputed low-light results, the lack of auto-framing and the absence of 4K are the clear limits. The privacy cover is useful, but it leaves the microphones live. Buyers who need audio muted must handle that elsewhere.
What owners report
Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.
- The sliding privacy cover is genuinely useful rather than decorative.
- The microphones reduce fan hum and keyboard noise well but do not replace a dedicated microphone.
- It is a personal desk webcam, limited by no auto-framing and no 4K, rather than a wide room camera.
Who should skip it
- Buyers who need 4K or frame rates above 30fps
- Anyone who wants auto-framing to keep them centred
- People who regularly call in dim rooms and want dependable low-light results
