New to motherboards? What they are and what to look for
The motherboard is the main circuit board of a desktop PC. Every other part plugs into it: the processor, memory, graphics card, SSDs and the cables to the case.
Do you need a motherboard? Only if you're building or upgrading a desktop. Choose it after the processor, because the two must use the same socket.
What to look for
- The socket that matches your processor (AM5, AM4, LGA1851 or LGA1700)
- The size your case takes: ATX, Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX
- Enough M.2 slots, USB ports and built-in Wi-Fi or 2.5GbE if you want them

The full review
Where it fits
The B760M DS3H AX DDR4 is a Micro-ATX board for Intel's LGA1700 socket. It uses the B760 chipset and takes DDR4 in four DIMM slots, up to 128 GB at 32 GB per DIMM, in dual channel. Speeds are listed up to 5333 MT/s with overclocking.
Storage and expansion
There are two M.2 slots, and both run at PCIe 4.0 x4. A Thermal Guard is fitted to the M.2 slot. The board also has four SATA 6Gb/s ports from the B760 chipset.
For graphics there is one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot with EZ-Latch. PCIe 5.0 is not supported, according to Frontum. With one full-length slot and two fast M.2 drives, it suits a single-GPU build with a couple of NVMe drives. Owners do complain about having only four SATA ports. If you plan to run several hard drives or SATA SSDs, that count will matter.
Networking and USB
Networking is a strong part of the board. It has Realtek 2.5GbE LAN and Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) with Bluetooth 5.2 or 5.3, depending on the PCB revision. Owners praise both the 2.5GbE LAN and the Wi-Fi 6E.
USB is thinner. The spec lists one rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port at 10Gb/s. Owners complain about few USB ports overall. Anyone with many peripherals, capture devices or external drives may need a hub or a different board.
Power delivery4/10
This is the board's weak point. Gigabyte lists a 6+2+1 hybrid digital VRM with low-RDS(on) MOSFETs. A heatsink sits over the MOSFETs, and Tom's Hardware says it is held by push pins.
Tom's Hardware gives stock PL1 as about 215 W, dropping to 125 W after boost. It says the power delivery ran warm even at 125 W. The BIOS limit kept the board in check with an i9-14900K. Frontum notes that the entry-level VRM may limit performance with flagship i9 chips, and owners raise the same complaint about a weak VRM for high-end CPUs.
Given the warm running at 125 W and those owner reports, this board suits mid-range processors better than a top-end i9 that you want to hold at full boost.
BIOS and setup7/10
Q-Flash Plus lets you update the BIOS without installing the CPU, memory or graphics card. That helps if the BIOS on the board is too old for the processor you bought. Owners also praise easy installation, and EZ-Latch on the graphics slot supports that.
There's no recurring memory or stability complaints from owners listed.
Value7/10
Frontum gives a user score of 8.4, and owners praise the board's value. The reasons are visible in the specification: 2.5GbE, Wi-Fi 6E, two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots and a BIOS flash feature on a B760 board. The trade-offs are the modest USB count, four SATA ports, no PCIe 5.0 and the VRM.
Verdict
Choose this board for a mainstream DDR4 build with a mid-range Intel CPU, where built-in 2.5GbE and Wi-Fi 6E matter and you do not need many USB or SATA ports. Look at a board with stronger power delivery if you plan to pair it with a flagship chip.
What owners report
Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.
- Owners like the 2.5GbE LAN and Wi-Fi 6E.
- Owners praise the value and say installation is easy.
- Some owners are unhappy with the small number of USB ports and only four SATA ports.
- Some owners say the VRM is weak for high-end CPUs.
Who should skip it
- Buyers planning a flagship Core i9 and wanting full sustained boost
- Anyone who needs many rear USB ports or more than four SATA drives
- Builders who want PCIe 5.0 for graphics or NVMe
