DeepCool AK620 DIGITAL
6.9out of 10verdict: good, not the best

The AK620 DIGITAL is for builders who want a large dual-tower air cooler for a current Intel or AMD desktop. It suits anyone who values strong cooling and a visible temperature or load readout in the case.

New to CPU coolers? What they are and what to look for

A CPU cooler keeps the processor from overheating. Most are a metal heatsink with a fan; liquid coolers (AIOs) pump coolant to a radiator instead.

Do you need a CPU cooler? Needed if your processor doesn't come with a cooler, or if the one in the box is too loud. Faster processors need bigger coolers.

What to look for

  • Support for your processor's socket
  • A height that fits your case, or a radiator size the case can mount
  • Low noise: a good tower air cooler is often quieter than a liquid cooler

Support and features

Software updatesNo end-of-support date announced; the maker's support page only mentions a general replacement policy for discontinued products. source

Compatibility

LinuxPartly works on Linux. No official Linux software from DeepCool, but community tools such as the Nortank12 project list the AK620 DIGITAL as supported and owner reports say they work, with the mainline kernel not supporting it. source

The full review

Where it fits

The AK620 DIGITAL is a dual-tower air cooler with six 6mm copper heatpipes and two 120mm PWM fans. It adds a display that owners say shows either CPU temperature or load. It suits buyers who want a large air cooler for a recent Intel or AMD desktop and like a readout visible in the case.

Cooling8/10

APH Networks recorded a full-load temperature of 72°C. That was the best air-cooler result in its test, and two degrees behind a Thermaltake AIO. Owners also praise the cooling. Both points suggest it handles sustained loads well on a demanding chip.

There is a limit. Overclocking.com found the cooler failed to keep a Ryzen 9 7900X at 150W at decent temperatures at low revs. With a high power limit, expect to rely on higher fan speeds. A retailer lists a 260 W TDP, but DeepCool does not confirm that figure, so treat it with caution.

Noise5/10

Noise is the weaker side of this cooler. DeepCool quotes 28 dBA at full load. Independent figures are far higher. Tom's Hardware measured 43.4 dBA under load with an i7-13700K and no power limits. Tech4Gamers measured 53 dB(A) with its own meter. Both sit well above the manufacturer's claim, and owners report fan noise under load.

The two fans run from 500 to 1850 RPM and use fluid dynamic bearings. That range leaves room to adjust the fan curve, which is what Tech4Gamers suggests. If you are sensitive to noise, plan to do that rather than leave the fans on default behaviour.

Compatibility and fit7/10

Socket support is broad. DeepCool lists Intel LGA2066, 2011-v3, 2011, 1851, 1700, 1200, 1151, 1150 and 1155, plus AMD AM5 and AM4. Current platforms are covered, and so are several older ones.

Height needs checking. The cooler stands 162 mm overall, with the heatsink alone at 157 mm. Because of that, a compact case may not take it, so compare the figure against your case's stated CPU cooler limit.

RAM clearance is 43 mm maximum according to LDLC. Tech4Gamers says the adjustable front fan accommodates RAM up to 47 mm. With tall memory modules, the position of that front fan decides whether they fit.

Build and installation6/10

The cooler is a dual-tower design with six 6mm copper heatpipes and two PWM fans. The fans use fluid dynamic bearings. DeepCool backs the cooler with a three-year limited warranty. The front fan can be adjusted to clear memory, which helps when RAM height is a concern.

The display

Owner feedback on the display is lukewarm. It is limited to CPU temperature or load. If you want a screen that shows more, it will not do that. If you only want a quick glance at how hot the CPU is, it covers the basics.

Who it suits

This is a good match for someone building a fast mainstream or high-end desktop who wants air cooling that APH Networks found close to an AIO. It is less suited to a quiet-first build or to a chip held at a high power limit with the fans kept slow. Check case height and RAM height before buying, and expect to spend a little time on the fan curve.

What owners report

Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.

  • Owners praise the cooling performance.
  • Fan noise under load comes up repeatedly.
  • The display is limited to showing CPU temperature or load.
Who should skip it
  • Buyers building a very quiet system who will not tune fan curves
  • Anyone with a compact case that cannot fit a 162 mm cooler
  • People who want a display showing more than CPU temperature or load
