5.1out of 10verdict: good, not the best

The TrustKey T110 is a USB-A FIDO2 key for people who want passkey or second-factor login on computers with USB-A ports. It suits those who want the listed resident key capacity and simple setup, and who can accept a lower certification level and no USB-C or NFC support.

New to security keys? What they are and what to look for

A security key is a small USB or NFC device you use to sign in to accounts. Even if someone steals your password, they can't get in without the key in your hand.

Do you need a security key? One of the strongest protections for your email, bank and work accounts. Recommended for anyone, and especially for people at higher risk of being targeted.

What to look for

  • Buy two, so you have a backup if one is lost
  • USB-C and NFC work with modern laptops and phones
  • FIDO2 and passkey support

Latest firmware or softwareNo release date found
Known security issuesNone found in public advisories. That's a good sign, not a guarantee.

Update recordNo firmware release date, CVEs, or advisories were found in limited searches, so the security record is unverified rather than clean.
LinuxPartly works on Linux. Linux is listed as a supported OS and needs no driver as a security key, but the manuals conflict on whether the management software runs on Linux, and SSH resident keys need a PIN set first. source

The full review

Where it fits

The TrustKey T110 is a USB-A FIDO2 key. It suits anyone who wants a hardware second factor or passwordless login on a machine with a USB-A port. A 2020 press release announced it, and the model number on Amazon listings is 10000110. Owners describe simple setup and compatibility with USB-A ports and major sites.

Protocols6/10

The T110 supports FIDO2 and U2F. That covers passkeys and standard hardware second-factor logins. It also lists TOTP and HOTP for one-time codes, but those need the TrustKey management software. There's no PIV smart card or OpenPGP support listed. That makes it a FIDO key with an optional code feature, not a multi-function token for smart card or PGP work.

Connectivity3/10

The only connector listed is USB-A. There's no USB-C and no NFC listed. With that spec, it suits laptops and desktops with USB-A ports and does not suit a setup built around USB-C-only machines or tap-to-phone logins. The seller lists the size as 1.64 x 0.7 x 0.15 inches and the weight as roughly 3.1 grams.

Passkey storage8/10

Cardlogix lists up to 150 resident keys. An eBay listing says up to 200. Because of that, the lower figure of 150 is the safer one to plan around.

Certification and firmware4/10

The listed certification is FIDO2 Authenticator Security Level 1. Cardlogix lists a FIPS-compliant TRNG, which is a random number generator, not a FIPS validation.

The 2020 press release says the T110 uses the same platform as the FIDO L2 certified G310 and G320 keys. That is not a Level 2 certification of the T110 itself. Buyers who need Level 2 or FIPS for policy reasons should not treat the T110 as meeting either.

Firmware is updatable, and the user manual directs owners to the TrustKey website for updates. One Amazon.es listing states guaranteed updates until "unknown".

One more point for anyone considering the key for specific services. A post on the OpenAI community forum names the T110 as currently ineligible for individual Daybreak access. That is one user's account and not an official OpenAI page. Check eligibility with the service before you buy if that matters to you.

Durability and value5/10

The manufacturer does not publish water or crush resistance. A seller lists the key as shockproof but gives no test figure. Owners and reviewers praise the build quality, and that is the main durability evidence available. With no ingress or crush rating, the key is hard to judge for a bag or keyring that sees rough use.

On the spec sheet, the listed resident key capacity and the updatable firmware are the points in its favour. The Level 1 certification, USB-A-only connector and unpublished durability figures are the trade-offs.

Verdict

The T110 supports FIDO2 and U2F, lists up to 150 resident keys and has updatable firmware. Its limits are clear from the specs. It has one connector type, it holds a Level 1 certification, and it has no stated end date for updates. It fits a USB-A desktop or laptop setup where simple passkey and second-factor login is the aim. It does not fit buyers who need phone support, higher certification or documented durability.
