New to memory kits? What they are and what to look for

Memory (RAM) is a computer's short-term workspace. More memory lets you run more programs and browser tabs at once without slowing down.

Do you need memory (RAM)? Worth upgrading if your computer slows down with many apps open. Check which type and maximum amount your computer supports first.

What to look for

  • The right type for your computer: DDR4 or DDR5, desktop or laptop size
  • 16GB for everyday use, 32GB for heavier work
  • Matching pairs of sticks

Support and features

Compatibility

LinuxPartly works on Linux. Corsair's iCUE software does not run on Linux, so RGB is controlled only through third-party OpenRGB over SMBus, with Direct mode reported in a 2023-era merge request and some owner reports of setup quirks. source

The full review

Where it fits

This is a 32GB kit of two 16GB DDR5 UDIMMs. The modules are 288-pin, non-ECC and non-registered. It is aimed at desktop builds that want fast DDR5 and RGB lighting. It carries an Intel XMP profile, and Corsair's C30 Intel kit listing names Intel 600, 700 and 800 Series motherboards.

Speed and latency8/10

The rated speed is 6000 MT/s (PC5-48000) at CL30, with timings of 30-36-36-76. The tested voltage is 1.40V. The spec sheet says reaching 6000 MT/s requires overclocking or a BIOS adjustment. Without that, the modules run to their JEDEC SPD: 4800MHz at 40-40-40-77 and 1.1V.

That gap matters. The headline numbers only apply once you enable the profile in firmware. The rated timings of CL30 are tighter than the CL40 fallback, so the profile is the point of buying this kit. Owners report it is stable and fast at 6000 MT/s, which supports the rated figures.

Compatibility6/10

Corsair's listing for this kit names Intel platforms only. The profile is Intel XMP. Corsair UK also lists a separate AMD EXPO version of the kit in grey, which suggests AMD buyers are meant to look at that one first.

Owner reports add a wrinkle. Some say the kit runs stable at 6000 MT/s on AMD AM5, with good sync to other Corsair RGB products. Check your board maker's memory support list for this exact kit before buying, especially on a non-Intel board.

Lighting and fit

Each module has ten individually addressable RGB LEDs, controlled through iCUE. Owners mention good sync with other Corsair RGB products, so a build with other Corsair lighting gains the most from this kit.

If you run a large air cooler or a small case, check the dimensions and iCUE options first.

Capacity5/10

This listing covers a single configuration: 32GB as 2x16GB. There's no larger kit sizes, so anyone planning several memory-hungry VMs should look at bigger capacities elsewhere in the range listed.

The memory is non-ECC. If you need ECC for a server or workstation, this kit does not provide it.

Warranty and buying7/10

Corsair's UK page lists a limited lifetime warranty. That is a solid base for a memory kit. There is one catch. The Amazon UK page for ASIN B0BPTKD797 carries a notice that the manufacturer warranty will not apply, and it advises checking seller stock status. If the warranty matters to you, confirm who is selling the kit and what cover comes with it.

Owners also note that the price rose substantially during the memory price increase. Check current pricing from several sellers, and weigh it against the AMD EXPO and non-RGB variants Corsair lists.

Who it suits

This kit suits an Intel 600, 700 or 800 Series build that wants DDR5-6000 CL30 and Corsair RGB lighting. It also looks workable on AM5 going by owner reports, with the caveat that Corsair's own listing for this kit names Intel only. If you want ECC, a bigger capacity for VMs, or confirmed low-profile dimensions, the spec sheet gives you no reason to choose it.

What owners report

Recurring themes from public owner feedback, summarised in our own words.

  • Owners report stable, fast 6000 MT/s operation on AMD AM5.
  • RGB syncs well with other Corsair RGB products.
  • The price rose substantially during the memory price increase.
Who should skip it
  • Buyers who need ECC memory for a server or workstation
  • Anyone planning VM-heavy work that needs more than 32GB
  • Builders with tight cooler or case clearance who need confirmed module height
